Design Team Call

The justjohanna design team is refreshed every six months, with a call for new designers. We are accepting applications beginning immediately, and the final date we will be accepting applications is May 2, 2008. The call is open worldwide; there are no international restrictions.

What You Need to Do to Apply

  1. Create at least six (6) greeting cards using justjohanna images; at least 4 of the designs must incorporate 1 or more images from the downloadable PDF image file.
  2. Mail your samples to: justjohanna rubber stamps, 205 Cedar Glen Escondido, CA 92025.
  3. Label each sample with the following information: Your full name, Your mailing address, Your phone number, Your email address.
  4. Include a cover letter with an introduction, location of your online gallery and blog, any design team commitments you currently have, your publication, teaching, and/or design team experience to date. I'd like to get a sense of your personality from your introduction (brief bio), as well as what you might bring to the team should you be selected (why you would be a good addition to the team vs. why you desire to be on the team).
  5. Follow all instructions and guidelines precisely.

Guidelines for Submission

  1. Samples must not incorporate stamps from any manufacturer other than justjohanna.
  2. Samples should demonstrate consistency and innovative use of stamps.
  3. Samples must be neat and clean.
  4. Samples should showcase your personal style and be representative of your usual quality of work.
  5. Entries MUST be received by Friday, May 2, 2008. Late applications will not be considered this term.
  6. If you would like your application returned to you, you must provide a self-addressed envelope or box with sufficient postage. If you are selected to participate in the team, your application items will not be returned to you. If you do not include return packaging and sufficient postage, your application items will not be returned to you. If you are uncertain of the postage amount, a good guideline for domestic postage is about $5.00. For international, it is around $11.00.
  7. Digital applications will not be considered.

Design Team Benefits

Each Design Team member will receive a Starter Kit, valued over $200. Each month, Design Team members will earn credit to shop the justjohanna catalog. Design Team members will be given a discount code for justjohanna purchases that they are permitted to share with friends and family.

Design Team Responsibilities

Design Team members will create approximately 6 to 12 cards per month. A document outlining assignment requirements and specific compensation will be provided if you are selected for the team. All samples created by the Design Team will become the property of justjohanna. In addition to monthly deliverable work, Design Team members are expected to submit work for publication and to post justjohanna projects regularly in online galleries.

Designers must be able to submit their best work consistently and to meet regular deadlines. Design Team term will end on November 30, 2008, and members may re-apply for the next term.

Good luck. Thank you for taking the time to prepare a thoughtful application. I look at each one personally and carefully.

Out of the Box

With the "out of the box" technique, you just let it all hang out!

Lightly pencil a matte around an image, leaving part of the image to hang out over the edge.  Cut the straight sides of the matte up to the part hanging over the edge - do not cut through the image.  Using scissors, trim around the part of the image that extends beyond the straight edge.  Try leaving a little border around the image when you cut to accent it.

Cut another matte slightly larger to fit behind the straight sides of your image, you can double matte if you wish.

Here is an example, using Lumiere Peacock and Hope You're Feeling Chirpy Soon:

Of course, no one ever said your box had to be square.  Here is an example done with a circle instead of a rectangle. This one uses Alma Big, Spring Tree, and Just a Note.

To make a round "box", position your image in your circle cutter of choice.  When you cut, just stop cutting when you come to the portion where the image overlaps, move the blade beyond it and finish cutting.  Obviously, you can't use a punch for this!

This technique is a fun way to add a little extra punch to your cards.

Earn Free Stamps!

You can earn free justjohanna stamps if your project is published! For each item you create that gets published, you will earn $10 in free stamps. Please note that the publication must mention justjohanna in the stamp credits.

This offer is limited to $100.00 per publication (that is 10 items). In order to claim your credits, send a color copy of the published item(s) and the cover of the publication to:

justjohanna rubber stamps

or email a digital copy of the cover and publication pages to johanna@justjohanna.com.

Au revoir until next month.

Chirpily,
