New York has a Fashion Week, so does Milan. In an industry so full of talent and competition, a city has to earn the right to draw attention to itself as a Mecca for distinguished style. So for San Diego to celebrate an official Fashion Week of its own this fall, it's clear we have proved to be a city worth noticing.
Warming up the runway for San Diego Fashion Week is the first annual Downtown Escondido Fashion Week presented by Mercedes Benz of Escondido running the week of May 5 to May 10, 2008. Industry professionals and public alike will enjoy designs by Ricky Lizalde of Project Runway, Even Wear and Bridals by Sushanti, and sportswear by Miriam J at this glittering event put on by the Downtown Business Association of Escondido.
 At the Fashion Week launch party, guests will enjoy an informal tea with Ricky Lizalde benefiting the Serenity House, an organization of adult treatment centers. Runway shows will be in abundance showcasing hair designers, make-up artists, downtown clothing boutiques, home accessory stores, and more. In addition, multiple trunk shows will punctuate this glamorous week.

Downtown Escondido Fashion Week will be introducing visitors to our city's talent and celebrating the art of fashion, all while giving back to local charities but only in casual but dazzling San Diego style. All events (excluding Spa Day) will be held at the former H. Johnson building located at 131 South Broadway in Escondido. This building will be transformed into a world-class venue where the Downtown Business Association will host five events throughout the week.
