I love the thrill I get from purchasing new stamps. Notice I said 'stamps' and not 'stamp'. I can't remember the last time I went into a scrapbook or rubber stamp store and bought ONE stamp. I need to have more than one. The stamp needs a friend. It needs a theme buddy, right? It needs to not be the only new stamp in the drawer. The other stamps will laugh at it. Ok, that's a bit much, but can't you relate to shopping for stamps?
I mean, it's pure bliss when you go into a stamp store, isn't it? Your pulse quickens, you find yourself trying to calm down, but it won't happen. You have to see them ALL, need to see them ALL and buy some! You keep telling yourself to calm down and take your time, but oh, the stamps! All the shelves! They are calling to you. "Look at all of us. We are all so special. You need us!" You create cards in your mind as you look at the stamps on the shelves. You imagine the paper you own or just bought with the new stamps. Oh, sometimes I even buy new paper to go with the new stamps, don't you?
How about when you get the newest stamp catalog in the mail? It is a special time for me. I make sure all the family is fed, the dishes are done, my cup of tea is made and there is a cat in my lap, and then, THEN I open the new catalog. I'm lost in that catalog for at least the next hour, savoriing each and every page. It's my happy place. I mark pages with my sticky notes. I make lists. When I am finally finished looking at it, the catalog sits in my lap for a minute and I look at the cover. Over the next few days, this scenario will repeat at least twice, then I will lovingly place the catalog in the craft lounge for review at another time.
Rubber stamping is my happy place. I would't trade it for anything.
