We have all heard about the creative possibilities of stamps and their versatility. The best part of stamping is what each person's personality and creative ability brings to it. My favorite way of using stamps is to paper piece with them. What's that? Stamping the design on my choice of paper, cutting it out and layering it to make a design or picture. Each person will see different possibilities in every stamp, and that's what makes it fun.

The Odd Bird Planet stamp that I'd like to start with is the Plain Perch. Like its name, it's plain. But you can do wonderful things with "plain." Here are four samples using this stamp in different ways...

1) Stamp onto a transparency, put blue patterned paper under it... and you have a fishbowl. Perfect with the Odd Bird Planet fish stamp "Michelle." 2) Turn it upside down, and it's a hat - a gentleman's bowler or a Sunday hat complete with flower trim.  The girl's body is also made from the Plain Perch stamp. 

 

3) To make a dog, stamp the Plain Perch on your desired paper, cut the stamped image out and add a face, ears and a tail. Dry emboss the paper before you cut it out...you'll have a textured coat on your puppy. 4) I love the idea of a turtle with a paisley shell. A turtle with a birthday candle riding on its shell would be so cute on a birthday card.

   

Here are a few more ideas for the Plain Perch Snow Globe Cake Stand. It can be a pot of flowers, or a soup pot cooking on the stove. Odd Bird Planet has tons of recently released cooking images that would compliment a soup pot, including spoons, shakers, and steam. It can be a car. I love little "VW" bug cars. Make them come alive with hand-drawn facial features. An igloo - stamp Plain Perch on irridescent paper for a chilly effect. The Plain Perch also makes wonderful fat little ghosts for a Halloween card or decoration. And it can be a mug of hot chocolate or steaming coffee.

 

Look at your stamps in a different way, and let your imagination go. Very simple stamps can be the key to some very creative projects. Have fun with them!
