Mix It Up
by Kim Frantz

Stamps featured in this article: Frosting Only, I Love Cake, and Polka Dots.

Collage: a fun technique that assembles different or random parts together to make a whole new creation. Have you ever tried this with your rubber stamps? Grab a few of your favorites and see what you can create! Or, try this sample using birthday-themed stamps for a fun greeting that is sure to make an impression.

To begin, stamp cupcake onto white cardstock with black ink. Create a mask by stamping the same image onto a thin piece of white paper or a post-it note. Cut it out.

Lay the mask directly overtop of the first stamped image. Stamp the "I Love Cake" background.

Remove the mask to reveal the beginning of your collage.

Stamp the cupcake and the "I Love Cake" background onto various coordinated patterned papers.

Cut out the bottom of the cupcake image and adhere to the collage.

Cut out random words from several patterned papers. Adhere them onto your collage. Use a black pen to outline each cut-out word block. Stamp polka dots onto the icing of the cupcake to make sprinkles. Cut the collage to size.

Layer onto several patterned papers, and then onto a white card base. Add some lines with a black pen around the collage panel.

Try to see how many different looks you can create with the same couple of stamps. Change up ink colors, papers, and the composition. There are no rules and there is no end to the possibilities. Have fun mixing it up!
